Story: Mama's Snoring

Back in August of last year, my mother went with us on a mini-vacation to North Carolina. We mainly went to the Zoo and an aquarium the next day. Since the hours are limited (hard to cram both in the 9-5 time-frame especially considering the drive time) we stayed at a hotel. We had just one room with two queen beds so we could make the trip a little less expensive. I had terribly forgotten my mother was a horrible snorer. She drove in her own car, and after 3 hours of trying to go sleep, I panicked in my head. I tried everything in the book to get me to sleep. Counting sheep didn't work, even watching something boring didn't work. That snoring combined with the excitement of the day really had me wide awake.
So I gave up and put on my headphones and just watched Game of Thrones on my smartphone since I still had HBO NOW at the time. Eventually around 5-6 am I think I fell asleep for a little while. Since she was driving, I didn't want to wake her up as I could be dead asleep in the back of the car on the way home, whatever.
Surprisingly, my energy the next day was fine. I was able to enjoy the aquarium and the mall it is in. Towards the time we were leaving the mall, I had started to feel it a little. We got home and my mother asked if I could drive home safely and I thought so. Daisy and I got home and I still felt okay. We took care of a few things, but I took a sleeping aid (to ensure I would not wake up early) laid down around 3pm and didn't wake up until about 8am the next morning. Honestly it was the best sleep that night that I can remember.

  1. My husband snores too and keeps all of us up on our trips. Thankfully, he just got a CPAP machine, so our trips this year should be a little quieter. Glad you were still able to enjoy your outing, even with the lack of sleep.

  5. Funny Adam but I guess it wasn't really. So good of you to take your mom along with you and Daisy.

  6. Cindy says that I am a snorer but I have never woke myself up snoring so I don't know.

It sounds like you all had a great time of it, in spite of the snoring.

  7. Poor you! It was a rough experience for you, but I'm sure that it meant a lot to your mother.

  8. Jerry’s mother was a major snorer too. No one would share a room with her when the family traveled and we even all fought over who would have the adjoining room. THAT bad.
