Question: Do You Like Traditional Family Dinners?

By that I mean when everyone gets to a proper table at home, there is a large meal with a lot different things, where the patriarch/matriarch asserts authority making everyone abide by their rules. Typically there is talking and no television. I hated these as a child as I always felt so small and insignificant during them. I guess I'm not the only one because I can't really recall the last time I was ever at one except when I was a kid. Even during Thanksgiving, most of the time there isn't a table big enough for everyone, and everyone is given the chance to have a little bit of freedom of when to eat and where.

Do you like family dinners?

  3. Every now and again it's so good for the family to get-together, not always easy to do if distances, work shifts etc have to be juggled too. Our family gatherings are relaxed affairs ...

  4. I do! I think that there’s something special about having a nice dinner, every night by the table ( no Tv!) and just talk and connect with your family!

  5. The only rules at family dinners should be: no TV, no cellphones or other media at the table, no chewing with your mouth open and no stabbing each other with forks.

  6. I think the only time we have true family dinners are when we get together at my grandmas for holidays, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving.

  7. I do, but with our schedules, it so very rarely happens in our house. That's why I love holiday dinners so much. Everyone gets together and it's a great time to reconnect over a big meal.

  8. I've always enjoyed family dinners. When I was a kid, we always ate as a family, and I did the same with my own kids. But we always sat together and it was fun. I also love family gatherings during the holidays. Again, we always sit together, no matter the age, and it's always a great time.

  9. Yes but my family is scattered. so getting together is not that often, but when we do no TV, no phones...........talking only
and hopefully no squabbling. Kids sit at another table - not out of sight but out of noise range. Also no TV's for them either. They LEARN to talk and listen.........well one can but hope.

As a child.......all meals were family together. Then cleaning up chores.......clearing the table, washer-uppers, drier uppers.
    All wonderful memories of yesteryears.
