While the sun is "close" to the Earth on an astronomical scale, it is still many millions of miles away from the Earth. If someone was able to drive a car to the Sun, if you were able to constantly keep a speed of 100 mph (160 kph) it you would take you over a hundred years to reach it.
Damn, and no pee breaks? We'll skip that trip.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo! My Grandmother MacBeath had a set of encyclopedias that showed how long it would take a steam engine train to reach different parts of the solar system and the sun. I wish we still had those books!
